Are you fighting to lose weight? It’s a rough road to travel. Everyone has been considered medically “over weight” at some point in their life. Losing weight is one of the hardest things to do. Most people fail at weight loss because they don’t break their bad habits and they take the wrong approach. Losing weight can’t be a diet or a quick fix. It has to be a lifestyle change if you want to succeed at losing the weight and actually keep it off. There are some tips that will help you to change your lifestyle and be successful in your weight loss goals.
Picking the right foods can be more difficult that you make think. You go out to a restaurant and think you’ll make a good decision by ordering a salad. That’s great, but if you don’t pay attention to what is in the salad you could actually be eating more fat than if you get a double cheese burger and French fries. If the salad has bacon, cheese, croutons and a high fat, high calorie salad dressing then you’ve actually made a bad food choice. Picking things like grilled chicken, fish or another type of seafood that is prepared properly are good choices. You don’t have to shy away from all carbohydrates. They aren’t our sworn enemy here. They’re actually good for us, in moderation. Carbohydrates break down into serotonin which is our bodies own natural anti-depressant. So keeping carbohydrates in our menu is actually going to keep us happy, thus keeping us in the mood to make good choices and exercise. Lots of vegetables and fresh fruits are great for losing weight. Be sure to drink lots of water as well. Protein will help keep you feeling full too.
Things To Avoid
You want to avoid high calorie and high fat foods. You don’t want to be eating tons of double cheese burgers, fast food and fried foods. Those foods will cause you to gain weight. So if you go out to a fast food restaurant you can still make good choices when ordering. You can get grilled chicken, chili, baked potato or even a yogurt. Nowadays they have more healthier options and they also are required to provide you with nutritional information about the food they serve. You also want to avoid alcohol. Drinking alcohol will help you to keep the weight on and possibly gain more, especially around the mid section of your body. You want to avoid snacking. If you’re really starving between lunch and dinner try drinking a big glass of water and maybe have some celery sticks. You can even use fat free cream cheese for the celery sticks. You could choose fresh fruit or a piece of low fat ham. Avoid eating after dinner. No late night snacking. You don’t want it to be 9 o’clock at night and you’re having a bowl of ice cream. That ice cream is going to sabotage your weight loss goals.
Exercise at least once a day is a necessity. You need to do exercise that work all your muscle groups and gets your heart rate working. Cardio exercises are highly effective. Walking is also very effective. It doesn’t sound like that big of a deal but if you keep a good pace then your heart starts pumping faster and you’re getting a good workout. Doing things like squats, sit ups and planking exercises are really great ways to strengthen muscles and lose weight.
